Is there a way to force the usage of a phone app over the ATV one ?

Hello,

I'm on s905w, with 2FF.
All works well.

Except Mycanal, the ATV app is not compatible (video frozen, but sound ok).
The APK is the same file for both ATV and Mobile /tablet.
On my previous ROM, when I installed the same APK, I had the phone version, and all videos worked perfectly.

So is there a way to force ATVexperience to use the phone version of the APK over the ATV one please ?

This is my only problem with this ROM everything works like a charm, so thanks.

In theory, to launch the phone version of the app, you'll need to open it from the appdrawer instead of the homescreen

Thanks for answering.

No matter where I launch the app (tried everywhere), it's always launching the ATV version...

Is there a conf file or something to tweak ?

Did you download MyCanal from ATV playstore? Because you say the apk is the same as Mobile version, but it is possible the ATV version requires Widevine Level 1 and the mobile doesn't, meaning there are two versions. Netflix does this with their apks so is also possible with MyCanal, because I believe is a paid service correct?

Download app from alternative Play store like Aurora Store where you can spoof your device to look for phone versions of apps. I spoof my device to be Nexus10 because it is 32-bit and 320 dpi to match atvXperience. Or you can download apks from APKmirror.com and they provide all the description info to make sure you download the correct version for device.

@ricklar thank you for answer.

I tried and downloaded the APK from everywhere (playstore/ apkmirror/ Aurora with your trick etc).

It's always launching the app as an ATV app.
Mycanal is indeed a French Paid streaming service like Netflix with Live Channels.
I don't know what more to try to force the APK (there is really only one for all versions, phone tablet tv box) to launch as mobile.

I'm sure it's possible, because ATVexperience isn't really a ATV os.

atvXperience is really AndriodTV OS, it is just not Certified or Licensed. The way the system runs Android it believes it is AndroidTV the same that would be built into a flatsceen SonyTV, and so if apps are coded to read the style of android to display themselves according to the different standards mobile, tablet, or TV; then the App will display for ATV and not mobile. There is no way to trick the app in thinking it is mobile unless you modify the app coding, which in most cases for paid services if you modify the app it will stop working.

Another solution may be KODI, to check and see if MyCanal makes a Kodi Add-on to stream legally with.

Ok I see, I misunderstood ATVexperience, because it looks like it's running a Tablet Android (notifications bar, full settings, root access etc).

Kodi isn't a good solution for Mycanal. That's too bad, thanks again for the info.

Somebody mentioned on Reddit that I should modify the AndroidManifest.xml from the app, but I have no idea what to change... Sometimes it sucks to be bad in computer science ahah
