That looks like a nice device. I haven't seen anybody come out with a custom firmware for that device yet. But if the support for the factory firmware is as good as the regular X96 Max, then check the internal Upgrade app and you should have a few OTA's to download and install. Which should fix any major issues.
The X96S has the S905y2 chip and I believe SuperCeleron made a custom ROM for the A95X plus which has the same chip. It might be possible to port that firmware to your device.
With all the planned firmwares for atvXperience V3 that needed to be completed still yet, that chipset would be last on the list and would require one of the devs to have such a device as well so they could test firmware with it.

My test device: H96 Pro+ 3gb/32gb DDR4 Plus own Tanix, Beelink, Alfawise, X96S, Odroid-N2, Khadas VIM3L, X3, ADT-3, X96-Air GEARBEST.com PLEASE ENJOY ATVX!
And to clarify that device has a S905Y2, I don't know why that one YouTube video says S905x2. These are two distinctly different chips, Amlogic clearly has them listed in their Data sheets. The S905Y2 is made especially for small dongle type devices and has no built-in Ethernet support in the chip.

Thanks for the reply!
I don't really like the current stock interface. After witnissing few youtube on atvxperience, I am very eager to have that ROM on my X96S. Hopefully, the wait is not too long and accelerate the process. Really like the optimised Android TV experience.

Now, I believe X96S is on S905Y2 and not S905X2. Not sure why their official site brackets "(X2)". Sorry for posting in the wrong thread. Maybe you can create a group for S905Y2 and move this thread there.

Looks like SuperCeleron might not be offering a custom ROM for this X96S device.
Ok, moved this topic to 'Other Amlogic Boxes.' Won't create a separate S905Y2 thread unless we start supporting those devices with atvX. Amlogic is already working on releasing the next variant of that chip, S905Y3, should be released end of this year or the beginning of next year.

You can replace stock launcher with another launcher, to get that "atv style" experience. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=675

Hopefully, atvX is supported in the coming months?

Thanks for the info. Will check it out. But nothing beats native clean ROM.

Alright, I just got one of these devices, going to use as daily driver for a week and see what is drastically wrong with it before I try to start tinkering with the ROM. As of Right now I only have the 8.1 stock ROM file downloaded for backup or to modify, but I did send message to Acemax to see if they will send me the latest 9.0 factory ROM for this device.
