Yes, for all Amlogic SOC's.

* This is only a temporary boot TWRP, your stock recovery will be intact after a reboot.
If you brick your device and can not access recovery, then your TWRP backup won't be much help, its allways good to have stock firmware image ready. Make sure that all partitons (e.g. vendor) are saved.

You can make full android backup with LibreELEC-SDcard, and reinstall Android with LibreELEC even if Android won't boot. I have bricked Android and still LibreELEC works. But, I always just reload firmware with UBT software because I have devices all with available stock firmware images.

"u213" - if I had to guess, I would say stupid developer of stock ROM made error naming device u213 and not u211 like all other S905x2. Either way, you should be able to use the TWRP_3.2.3-1.img found on FreakTab for S905x2 to make a full backup, I used it for S905y2 (which has different reference code) and it worked to make and restore backups, just have to reload the TWRP everytime I want to use it, because it won't permanently install in recovery partition.

I used to put recovery.img to root of sd card and power on the device while holding the reset button inside AV hole.

Device alsways boots into stock recovery.....this method does not work any more?

Ill try applying update from SD card through recovery now

I can confirm this recovery is the only one which can be launched from stock recovery. Even though I am not able to backup system partition nor is it possible to backup vendor partition. Kindly check attached pictures. Maybe someone can figure out why...I even tried out to mount system through stock recovery (there is one menu point)

And then the recovery which could be launched but neither system nor vendor partition is present:
