[QUESTION] atvXperience and DRM

#1

Post by antony23 » Mon May 20, 2019 12:10 am

Hi,
first of all i have to thank you for this great project, congratulations!

I have to buy a new box, and it will have for sure two features: new s905x2 socket and atvXperience support! :)

I'm new to atvXperience, so i would make you two questions:
1. Should i buy a box with official widevine L1 drm and netflix 4k support to have these features in atvXperience too? Or atvXperience can "solve" the DRM problems in some way?
2. Which s905x2 box you advice me to buy?

Thanks,

Antony

1) Answer: if you must have a box for Netflix 4k, then you must buy an Official Certified by Netflix box that has Netflix License Certificates built-in. Examples are Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi MiBox, Amazon FireTV, or a Roku box. And you must keep the original firmware installed and not use AtvX. There may be other tv boxes that are only sold in your country from local stores that have Netflix license but also those must keep stock firmware.

2) The best android tv box to buy, with fair price, keep its original firmware, and have the Amlogic S905x2 is the Mecool KM3. It has DRM Widevine L1 from factory, working Chromecast, but the only big negative is No Netflix support. Netflix may work through Kodi as an Addon but that is not guaranteed. KM3 also has stock AndroidTV OS.

3) Now if you want a strong Amlogic S905x2 tv box to have a custom firmware, then the two best choices in my opinion are the Beelink GT1 Mini or the Tanix TX5-MAX. I personally tested the Tanix TX5-Max and even with stock firmware it is a good box. I did tweak the box, intsall init.d, and install some scripts to run better before I gave it back to my friend.

Or, If you have the knowledge to port a modded firmware to a device, myself I was thinking that the T10 Pro or the Qintaix Q9S Pro, both with S905x2, would be good choices to try porting AtvX V3 firmware once it is finished. Chigz Tech Reviews and TV Box Stop, both are YouTube channels, have reviews on all the new S905x2 tv boxes. All the S905x2 boxes are very similar. A couple have weak wifi antennas, example is the H96 Max.

But, If you just want a tv box to install the current atvXperience immediately then a budget choice is the A95X F1 with S905W chip, I think Gearbest.com has it on sale right now.
