To switch to nougat you need a new bootloader.
1. Start LibreElec and delete the old bootloader via SSH.
2. Turn off the box and remove the LibreElec SDcard.
3. Download this image and burn it to the SDcard using Burn Card Maker ("erase_bootloader" and "erase_flash" need to be set).
4. Insert the prepared SDcard into the box and switch it on, the upgrade will start automatically, the reset button does not have to be pressed.
Note: If it does not work, you may need to use the pin-shorting method to revive your box.

Did you remove the old bootloader? Please post console output. Did the SDcard upgrade go through 100% ? Please a bit more detailed, I need to know if the new bootloader works..
Also try pressing the reset button..
If you have deleted the old bootloader successfully, the upgrade is only possible with the new bootloader. If the new bootloader does not work, the bootloader partition will not be overwritten during the SDcard upgrade, this should protect you from bootloop and you can easily return to the original Android OS.

Sorry, i deleted the bootloader through SSH in libreelec using the command above, used Burn card maker to make the card (tried USB and SD card), when i put it in the box and turn it on, nothing shows on the screen at all. I tried also holding reset but nothing happens, just a black screen and no lights on the box at all. I will try again this evening to get UART working.
