The easiest way which works for me is to install Titanium Backup and FREEZE the com.google.android.leanbacklauncher.recommendations
launcher Leanback

If you changed your opinion, you can use the default launcher after unfreezing

How to do it:

1. Download apk Reboot (Author: Pierre Sagne) for example
2. Download apk Titanium Backup
3. Download apk Nova Launcher for example
4. Download Magisk zip
5. Put files on USB drive

6. On the media box open Play Store
7. Install FX Explorer
8. Insert USB drive
9. Open USB drive - install APKs

10. Open app Reboot - reboot to recovery
11. You will be in TWRP recovery - swipe to modify
12. Choose install, select USB storage and install Magisk zip file
13. After reboot open Titanium Backup - allow root acces
14. Click on magnifier icon and search for "launcher"
click on com.google.android.leanbacklauncher.recommendations and choose Freeze
click on launcher Leanback and choose Freeze

Though, I hate Nova Launcher, if you are using a TVbox why try and make your TV look like a tablet? That is just my thinking. For a clean simple interface that also requires an air-mouse use Sentio Desktop which provides a PC like computer experience or my other favorites are ATV Launcher Pro or TVLauncher_3 made by Awesome Development because both of those function well with D-pad remotes. All these 3 apps I have installed in my tvbox but I leave the LeanbackLauncher as default and use it almost all the time.

Note: I use the modified Blue background leanbacklauncher version made by AxEgo that was shared here, I really like the shade of Blue he choose to use, it looks brilliant on the big tv screen.
