I bought this box ages ago and never used it, been mostly gathering dust, decided recently to look into re-purposing it into doing something more useful, so have been pondering LibreELEC or better Android images for the thing.

Anyway, I bought this thing years ago gearbest without really doing any research or thinking too much about it. Product Page is here: https://uk.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_366023.html

So it's a Sunvell T95m with 1GB RAM / 8GB ROM, Amlogic S905x

I'd like to flash atvx onto it but am having some trouble. Perhaps it's not compatible, I'm unsure. There is one other thread about this where the other owner seems to have bricked his. I'd rather like to avoid that, if possible.

At first I assumed that the latest atvXperience_S905X_V2H_FINAL.img would be what I should use, but I'm confused about compatibility of different RAM Sizes and Types - are there different image for DDR3 vs DDR4? I don't really get it.

In trying to image that, I get an error from USB Burning Tool, "[0x10105002]Romcode/Initialize DDR/Read initialize status/USB Control setup error"

Can anyone offer any advice?

I am beginning to wonder if this is actually an S905 device, not S905X despite what the product page said. Would that alone explain the error, or is there more going on here?

I've attached some files. On the one hand, it does say S905_1G_100_V1.6 and the lack of an X in there make me think, maybe it is an S905? But the product page very clearly says S905X

Sunvell also did a T95X model though, as well as just a T95 and from what I can tell, T95 was S905 and T95X was S905X so exactly what that means for this T95m, I don't know.

A bit more searching led me to this Review from some other forums from 2016;
https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/main-c ... box-review

That's exactly what I have except that they have the legit 2GB RAM Model pictured there (with 2 RAM chips on the top and 2 on the underside) - and it's clearly marked there as an S905 NOT an S905X, so I guess I am out of luck.

Sucks that gearbest are listing a S905 box as S905X though? Or are they actually quite similar?

And why does this thread suggest someone got the S905X image (atvXperience v2E) working on this box? I am confused.

Install LibreELEC on the SD card and try to boot with gxbb dtb (p200 / p201 1g) or gxl dtb (p212 1g). For me it's a S905M (gxbb) board.

Your device is a gxbb p201 = S905 (M), unfortunately there is no working atvX image for this box.
