In the case of an "my remote control is not working" after instaling atvXperience rom, try first to replace remote.conf file in #/system/etc folder with stock one.
Use a file manager with root access (ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, FX File Explorer...) to make changes.

Common mistake is to not set the new copy/paste file remote.conf to proper permissions, example rw- r-- r--
stock firmware on my x96 mini allowed me to use the Kodi, Play/pause, stop, and skip buttons at the top of the standard IR remote that came with the box. ATVxperience seems to be missing something that allows me to use those buttons. was just wondering if there is something i can install to get them working again or an app that allows me to set custom keystrokes for the remote.

where abouts is the remote.conf file located? or is there a keymapping tool i can use for the global android settings, i don't care too much for the stock remote because i use my Logitech Harmony 650 so i can program in custom keys
