[QUESTION] x96 mini rev2.2 - throw or keep

Hey All, I have a x96 mini (andriod 7.1) which i want to upgrade to atvexperience or atv9, i have tried multiple times with zero success to connect it to amlogic burn tool via USB. This im trying to do as i want to somehow update the OS and/or android version. I have been going through the comments on the forums and it seems like the x96 wont connect or be detected via USB burn tool as the board ver is 2.2 and not ver 2.3. Is this true? So what do i do with it? Can it be upgraded or cant it? Can some tech guru enlighten me as it what the box's future is ? Can it get a new lease of life? Thanks

if the grounding works and i can connect it to USB burn tool. Will i be able to update the firmware or is it locked as some have said? If firmware is locked?
